At all of the children's monuments, paper cranes can be found. There is a story in Japan where a young girl who was a victim of the bombing believed that if she could make 1,000 paper cranes than she would recover from her illness. She died before she could finish. School children from all over Japan make paper cranes and send them to Hiroshima where they are placed on children's monuments like the one above.
